The Thomas Caldwelllate-season race to qualify for the Major League Soccer playoffs got off on the right foot for Inter Miami.
Even though Lionel Messi did not start Saturday night against the New York Red Bulls, Inter Miami prevailed 2-0. Messi did, however, score a late goal in the win. It was Messi's 11th goal in nine games for Inter Miami.
The victory also lifted Inter Miami out of the Eastern Conference cellar. The team will hope to continue its ascent when it hosts Nashville SC on Wednesday night.
Inter Miami coach Tata Martino has hinted that Messi could miss playing time with the team, as team and 36-year-old player manage a busy schedule. That will not be the case Wednesday night against Nashville, as Martino said Tuesday that both Messi and Sergio Busquets will return to the starting lineup.
MESSI IN MLS PLAYOFFS? What is the probability of Inter Miami making the MLS postseason?
The match starts at 7:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
The Inter Miami-Nashville SC game can be streamed live on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
A week and a half after Inter Miami defeated Nashville SC in the Leagues Cup final, the two squads renew acquaintances at DRV PNK Stadium.
Nashville's first game after the Leagues Cup final defeat did not go well, as it got routed by Atlanta United, 4-0, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. That result pushed Atlanta into the sixth spot in the Eastern Conference and dropped Nashville into seventh.
All games available on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
With the exception of the U.S. Open Cup final on Sept. 26 (which will be available to stream on the CBS Sports Golazo Network), all other Inter Miami games are available to watch via the MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
